Foley: 1981 arrest records unavailable

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Tom Foley, the endorsed Republican candidate for Connecticut governor, says he can’t release records from a 1981 arrest because the court did not keep them.

Foley issued a statement Friday saying his attorneys contacted the Southampton, N.Y., court about unsealing records from a car accident in which Foley drove into some parked cars. Foley says his attorneys were told the court does not retain records of unprosecuted cases prior to 1991 and there is no record of his case.

Foley says he does not recall the actual charge, which was later dropped, but says it was a minor traffic incident. The Hartford Courant has reported that he was charged with attempted first-degree assault.

The Greenwich businessman was arrested in 1993 following a dispute with his former wife. That case was also dropped.

If they are just arrest records without a conviction the arrest records disappear especially after nearly 30 years.

Your lying will do NOTHNG but ensure we wind up with a dem on the Governors chairs...I guess you can go and bankrupt a few more companies when that happens. I do wonder if this was Lamont or Malloy,,would the repub's be trying to defend this saying the records "just go away"....Hardly!!

I remember another Governor that had issues,,,his name was ROWLAND,,something about beating up his ex wife and getting his judge buddy to refuse to release the records, Oh yeah,,he worked out REALLY well for the state, mostly by helping himself to freebies.

If there is no conviction no records are kept after a certain time period. I am not positive if this is still true but after 7 years I believe you can request they be removed.

I read somewhere that he didn't remember the exact charge but it was an assault with a motor vehicle that he claimed was a misunderstanding. Hey nobody is perfect. Obama admitted using pot & cocaine in his youth and now he's the president.
