Weston, Conn. (WTNH)– One U.S. Senate hopeful looking to get his name on the Republican primary ballot this Memorial Day weekend.
Peter Schiff plans to take his petition drive on the road hitting parades and even a car show in hopes of getting enough signatures so he can get his name on the ballot.
Financial advisor and author Peter Schiff of Weston fancies himself as the logical choice for Republicans who now feel that former WWE/CEO Linda McMahon is un-electable in a race against Democrat Richard Blumenthal.
“My business experience in finance and economics is more relevant that her experience in wrestling and promotion,” said Peter Schiff a Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate.
As Schiff and his small army of volunteers gather the approximately 8300 signatures needed to get his name on the primary ballot, he says the Quinnipiac poll shows that the Republican establishment has made a big mistake because McMahon’s negative impressions among voters are on the rise.
However, the problem for Schiff is that 78 percent of voters say they just don’t know enough about him. “If I can simply get my message out to more people, I actually have a legitimate chance of winning,” said Schiff. “But as far as Linda’s concerned, she’s already sold her message to the public and they’re not buying it.”
Schiff is a Connecticut Tea Party favorite with a nearly cult like following with positions like this: “Restore respect for the Constitution. Restore limited government and free market capitalism, individual liberties, sound money. All the things that Republicans believe it but that traditional Republican politicians fail to deliver because they are more concerned about their own political careers.”
Schiff says 20,000 people have contributed to his campaign online. If he gets enough signatures in the next ten days, he says, he’ll do more advertising and make it a race. “I just don’t have an unlimited check book like McMahon has and I have to approach it more like a business and I have to watch my expenditures,” explained Schiff.
