Middletown, Conn. (AP) – The deputy U.S. Commerce secretary will be stopping in Connecticut to announce a trade initiative he says could create 2 million jobs.
The initiative by President Barack Obama calls for doubling the nation’s exports over the next five years.
Deputy secretary Dennis Hightower is scheduled to appear Monday morning at Middletown’s Export Assistance Center with Congressman Joe Courtney. Hightower is one of many trade officials Obama is
deploying to announce the initiative.
The Commerce Department oversees the Export Assistance Center, which helps companies with trade issues, including increasing international sales and meeting buyers.
Commerce officials say increasing exports will create high-paying jobs in manufacturing, services and agriculture.
