Hartford, Conn. (AP) – Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele says if he’s elected governor this fall, he would impose four-year hiring and spending freezes, and renegotiate benefits packages for Conn. state employees.
Fedele unveiled a far-reaching plan on Wednesday that he says will make structural changes to state government.
The Republican says the Democratic-controlled General Assembly cannot and will not make the sweeping changes that are needed to cut the size and cost of government.
Fedele is one of eight Republicans running or exploring a run for the party nomination. One of Fedele’s opponents, Greenwich businessman Tom Foley, questioned why Fedele hadn’t pushed for his
budget-cutting ideas during his tenure as lieutenant governor.
