Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) – Ned Lamont is set to officially announce his candidacy in the race for Governor tomorrow. He is among a huge field of Democrats, along with former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy.
According to many in the Democratic Party, these are the two guys to watch.
“Of all of these Democratic candidates running for Governor, it’s Dan Malloy that can make these decisions, Dan Malloy that can bring those people together and it’s Dan Malloy that’s going to lead us for the next four years and give us a better Connecticut,” said Mike Pohl of Manchester Town Committee.
Malloy got the endorsement of dozens of Democratic political activists from Manchester, East Hartford, South Windsor and several smaller towns today citing his experience running the city of Stamford as the biggest reason for their support.
Former gubernatorial candidate Gary LeBeau, a State Senator from East Hartford, threw his support to Malloy after talking with all the other candidates.
In Greenwich, millionaire businessman Ned Lamont is preparing to put someone else in charge of his business ventures so he can campaign full time following his official campaign announcement tomorrow; he intends to campaign as a non-politician.
“I’m the one guy that’s created jobs, know how to create jobs, know how to start a business, know how to talk to business to get them to consider growing and expanding and investing in our state,” said Lamont.
Malloy is asking that Lamont, who spent millions of his own money in his campaign against Joe Lieberman, to abide by the spending limits in the public campaign law.
“He has said in the past that he wants to have an even playing field. Every other Democrat is playing within that even playing field, so there really is no excuse for him to blow that system up at least for the Democratic nomination purposes,” Malloy said.
Here’s what Lamont said about that when News Channel 8 spoke with him today.
“I’ll tell you tomorrow, tomorrow is the day that I make my announcement at the Old State House; everyone’s invited and at that point if any questions come up about public financing, I’ll address them then,” said Lamont.
News Channel 8 has asked that question since he formed his exploratory committee back in November.
If he decides to spend his own money like he did against Lieberman in 2006 it will drastically change the race on the Democratic side.
Former Ambassador Tom Foley of Greenwich is already spending his own fortune on the Republican side.

Obama should have ran screaming from the former adminstration policies, instead he embraced them and went even further in the WRONG direction. Spend, Spend and Spend is all our government knows how to do.
He won the democratic primary in CT. He lost because LIEberman was and obviously is unwilling to listen to the people who elected him. Lieberman won because he had the republican vote.

I agree 100%!
Yes, because you love war... if you love it so much, maybe you should go fight in it.
Then maybe CERTAIN people here shouldn't criticize those who don't support the mess in the middle east. You can support your troops without agreeing with or supporting the war.
Thanks.
