WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says it’s time for Democrats and Republicans to work hard because the American people “expect a seriousness of purpose that transcends petty politics.”
Talking to reporters at the White House, Obama said the country must get on a path that “sustains fiscal responsibility” and he said he wants GOP lawmakers to work with him to help businesses create new jobs.
Obama called for an end to “grandstanding” and said he’s ready to cooperate with Republicans but that he won’t accept “obstinacy” on their part. The president said he understands “there are legitimate and genuine differences” between the political parties, but said it was time to get beyond “the political posturing that characterizes this town.”

If he thought he could get away with it, he would probably invite all the Republicans and Joe Liberman into a room and gas them. This is just another stunt by the jester in chief.
"Dodd Dumped"
Who is next.?
nothing will EVER change in that cesspool ........
its HOW things "get" done....; )
I think Obama is all show and has no propensity for small government solutions.
The Republicans should be careful of a political trap by the left wingers.
Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said, " Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land".
Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your Asses, raised the price of camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land.
Furthermore, I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, Savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc… I called Lifeline, the suicide help line. Got a freaking' call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal.
They all got excited and asked if I could drive a truck…
He is a Socialist and should never be trusted to accept American values without strings attached. It will be interesting to see how the Republicans react.
Yes, the liberal agenda is clear cut, and make no mistake about it, if we follow this leader blindly, our nation will wind up not in the ditch, but in an abyss from which we shall not escape. Our soveriegnty will be lost. The Chinese will demand something - what do you think they will want in exchange for keeping our economy going by buying our debt.
Now that he no longer has his guaranteed yes-vote, he wants to make it look like he is the great negotiator...
The guy is a complete waste of time and energy.
The sooner he leaves the White House the better.
Somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing it's idiot.
The Republicans should tell them "hell no."
"I think Obama is all show and has no propensity for small government solutions."
You had your chance to create "small government solutions" under the last administration. Yet the opposite occurred. When the Republicans controlled both the legislative and executive branch doing so would have been quite easy. Instead you got the Department of Homeland security, the biggest government entity ever developed. So, who are you and your party to complain about not having small government?
"Obamba the annointed one is calling for an end to grandstanding! Now that is rich."
Yeah, its anointed. Furthermore, many of us were sick of the War on Terror grandstanding that went on for 9 years. What about the 9/11 grandstanding you conservatives are so fond of? How about Sarah Palins grandstanding?
"Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said, " Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land"."
Well, if it wasnt for Roosevelt, and the New Deal, our country would have never come out of the Depression. But I know, Roosevelt was a democrat... therefor in your eyes, he was wrong.
"mortgaged the Promised Land."
Bush did the same by raising the dept ceiling and conducing a war that we are still in on borrowed money.
"Obama has spent most of his life marginalizing Traditional American values and now wants a truce."
You mean the values of hate, arrogance, bigotry, and christianity - with a small c? If republicans embody traditional American values we are all screwed.
"He can't give a straight answer to legitimate questions at a press conference."
Neither could Bush, so whats your problem?
"President Obama has already proven himself to be a devious, deceitful, and untrustworthy person."
Just like Bush and Dick.
"Arrogant, dishonest, Radical, Progressives Democrat’s, an Common-Sense can’t be used in the same sentence, We were promised change but what kind of change???"
Arrogant, dishonest and radical? Really now. Is that how you explain the last administration as well? Have you forgotten how arrogant, dishonest and radical the previous administration was?
Common-sense -- "stay the course" even when the course is failing. That is the form of logic you support?
I agree with you on change. There has been little to no change. But is that Obama's fault? Or is it the fault of congress? I believe it is the fault of congress that is stuck in a dysfunctional, nasty, partisan web created by the neo-cons of the 1990's.
