Hartford (WTNH) – The field of Republican candidates for governor grew by one more today with business leader Oz Griebel officially declaring his candidacy.
Griebel, of Simsbury, has been the head of the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce for the past 9 years, formerly the chairman of the state Transportation Strategy Board.
“We’re at a tipping point I’d say, Mark, and we have to come at our problems and opportunities with a different attitude with a much more private sector approach,” he said.
That’s very similar to the message of another Republican candidate, Greenwich millionaire businessman Tom Foley, who today became the first candidate for governor from either party to start advertising on television. He’s being marketed by the same group that did the Scott Brown campaign in Massachusetts.
In another development, former 4th District Republican Congressman Chris Shays tells News Channel 8 that he is also considering a run for the Republican nomination for governor. And Republican Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton says he will make his announcement about a run for governor on Monday.
