Hartford (AP) – New population figures indicate that Connecticut will keep all five of its seats in the U.S. House of Representatives after the 2010 census count.
The U.S. Census Bureau on Wednesday released its final round of estimates before new counts are made next spring as part of the formal census that’s conducted every 10 years.
The latest estimates show Connecticut’s population increased by about 15,000 people over the past year – only 0.4 percent – to a total of about 3.5 million. Connecticut retained its ranking as the 29th most populous state but still remains among the top 10 slowest-growing states.
The state’s congressional seats were reduced from six to five after the 2000 census was compiled, as other states’ population increases outpaced Connecticut’s 3.6 percent growth.
