Lawmakers pass deficit plan

Hartford (AP) – Connecticut Democratic lawmakers have approved a plan to close the state’s latest budget deficit, even as Republicans claim the proposal falls far short of what’s needed to balance the books.
The General Assembly passed two bills on Monday. One cuts state spending by $12.4 million, transfers millions of dollars from various funds, and replenishes many reductions proposed by Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell – including trimming state aid to cities and towns.
The second measure postpones a planned reduction in the estate tax.
Connecticut faces a $467 million deficit. That, however, includes a planned $130 million sales tax reduction that has been scrapped because of falling state revenues.
Rell calls the measure disappointing. Republicans say it still leaves the state $137 million in deficit. Democrats say it’s Rell’s job to find the savings.

Here is the MAIN reason why NOTHING will be done in Hartford....some rep said " the reason we are in this financial situation ISNT because of the states over spending or borrowing...." she went on to blame Wall St..........lol

Speaking of damn entitlements, I find it hard to believe, like with SSI & Medicade & Medicare, that if this state took care of just 20% of the damn fraud in the system, they would have millions that could be saved...the state doesnt do enough in that area... WE are just "expected" to fork over MORE damn money....

But PLEASE dont think you did a good job with the budget....LOL
Just go back to the well and bleed the tax payers dry or cut services like plowing, road maintenance, transit and education and then wonder why this state is welfare!
