Rell: Dems made up their numbers
Posted by ConnPolitics.tv Staff on December 16th, 2009
(WTNH) – Governor Rell said today that the numbers that Democratic leaders are using are phony made up numbers.
In rejecting the Governor’s latest budget cutting plan yesterday, the Speaker of the House said that the Hospital Association has told him it would result in the loss of 2,000 jobs.
Non-profit organizations say it would mean another 2,000 job losses and countless others.
“If we get rid of those 5,000 jobs, there’d be more people on unemployment, there’d be more people looking for health care through the state and it would hurt our economy,” said Speaker of the House Chris Donovan.
“I think it’s irresponsible for the Democrats to make up a number and put it out there as if it were gospel,” said Governor Jodi Rell.
But the Speaker said his number is as solid as any estimate can be. And the Governor doesn’t deny that some job losses would result from her plan.
“We don’t have any statistical analysis done on any job losses, but certainly to throw out a number and to simply make up a number. I think someone said to me; ‘pick a number, any number,’ and that’s exactly what it appears to be,” Governor Rell said.
Republicans are also questioning the Democrats plan to postpone a $100 million payment to the state employee pension plan.
“At some point we’re going to have to pay for our retirees and the promise we’ve made for their retirement fund. So taking that $100 million out is not real savings,” Senator John McKinney.
The Governor agrees but says it is likely it will happen if not now in the near future.

LOL
All of you fools "make up " numbers.........
Thats how budgets have been going on for decades........
If the taxpayers had the same mindset with our individual finances as the damn government does ( federal & state & municipalities) this pathetic country would be totally bankrupted by now....
That sound like something a drunk would say.
It either is or isn`t before you say "the Democrats are liers(phonys)."

Again, rather than working toward a solution Jodi is using this situation for political gain...

The same can be said for every politician.
Gotta love those Democrats...postpone putting the money into the retirement accounts so they can spend more money. They voted in those ridiculous pension packages and now they must be paid!!!!How much more do they want to bleed from the CT residents who are already feeling considerable pain due to no raises and no pension match???? Cuts have got to be made.
Political advantage insofar as giving republicans an advantage during the next general election. All she is doing is trying to help her party gain control.
"How much more do they want to bleed from the CT residents who are already feeling considerable pain due to no raises and no pension match????"
Jodi could have vetoed the budget, but she didn't. Furthermore, there are also Republicans in the legislature who have no problem bleeding us dry as well. You forget that we have a two party system -- as it currently stands.
