Lieberman supported Medicare expansion

WASHINGTON (AP) – Sen. Joe Lieberman was for a Medicare expansion before he was against it.
Democrats circulated video Monday from a Connecticut newspaper’s interview in September showing Lieberman voicing support for a so-called Medicare buy-in allowing uninsured people as young as 55 to purchase coverage.
The Connecticut independent, whose vote is critical to the health care reform bill’s prospects, had threatened Sunday to join Republicans in opposing health legislation permitting a buy-in.
Lieberman’s spokesman Marshall Wittmann said Lieberman’s comments were made before the Senate health care bill, which includes health insurance subsidies, was finalized. Wittmann said Lieberman believes the subsidies make a Medicare buy-in program redundant.

They consider Joe a conservative....
Just like the credit card reform bill that was as badly written. Now my credit card rates have gone up and they are tacking on additional fees. Great job democrats!
Go Joe!
How so? He supported it as part of his campaign. Now he doest support it. You would call this "flip-flopping". It is not smear, it is the truth.

Lieberman Defends Health Care Record
By DAVID LIGHTMAN
And MARK PAZNIOKAS Courant Staff Writers
"I have long supported the goal of universal health care," Lieberman told reporters. "Ned Lamont can talk about it. I've been doing something about it all the time I've been here."
From the New York Times, December 14th
"Democratic leaders noted that Mr. Lieberman on numerous occasions had voiced support for the Medicare buy-in proposal that he now wants dropped. It was part of a health care proposal that he championed as Al Gore’s running mate in the 2000 presidential race, and three months ago he expressed support for the same concept."
"The author of this tidbit intentionally neglected to mention those comments were several years ago before Obama gave us a humongous deficit"
They were made when bush was giving us an enormous deficit.
This is just Joe Lieberman doing what he does best... looking out for Joe and his pocketbook..
Campaign contributions...
Insurance $1,040,320
Pharmaceuticals/Health Products $617,540
"During his 2006 re-election campaign, Mr. Lieberman ranked second in the Senate in insurance industry contributions. Connecticut is a hub of the insurance business, with about 22,000 jobs specifically in health insurance, according to an industry trade group."
Sick and tired of such corruption and blantant self serving actions.
