GOP proposes $466 million in cuts

Republicans in the General Assembly say they have the solution to the latest ballooning budget deficit but the Republican governor has already blown their plan apart.
Just six months into the new budget year and we know there’s already close to half a billion dollars in red ink. City and town leaders are crying they can’t take any more cutting so Republican leaders announced a plan today that municipal leaders would like to hear but it has a big problem.
“We restore the 84 million dollars that has been proposed to come out of aid to municipalities,” Cafero said.
The two Republican leaders, who are both considering a run for governor, announced the plan that would not only restore the city and town funding, it would retain a cut in the sales tax and they said they can do it by cutting all programs by a mere 6.5 percent and by taking the public campaign finance money.
Governor Jodi Rell, who spent most of the day greeting well wishers at her holiday open house, had her staff run the numbers. They concluded that there were some old ideas in the Republican plan, and a few new ones, but one, great big enormous hole.
“One of the problems that I found already was that, I forget what the actual cut equated to, but it would be a loss for us of about half a billion dollars in stimulus money. We can’t afford to lose that. Oh, it was higher education, Rell said.

But what's that I hear? Liberals, unions and democrats demanding that someone else foot the bill.....what a surprise.
The rest of them will just have to do something all day.
NOBODY should hold their breath.......LOL
I have news for some of these political screw balls..a f''cking 1/2 a % in the sales tax drop isnt going to open the damn flood gates for people buyin..leave the tax alone..."you" / "we" need that money...........
what "we" dont need is a property tax increase OR a supplimental property tax bill..."I" have already made a decision to NOT pay the increase I got in the mail last Sat from my town...I WILL pay EXACTLY what I paid last year and NO MORE.....more of you damn people out there need to do this if you got property tax increases this year to pay for this stupid mess we are now in.....I have personally cut all I can cut from my own personal spending...I am doing WITHOUT quite a few things that I USE to have just 2 years ago....enough is enough.....and I have NEVER lived " lavishly " this state government DOES..........
The Connecticut media refuses to inform us of these issues and prefer to treat us like mushrooms that live in the dark and feed on B--l S--t.
