Conn. Capitol police chief dies at 47

Hartford (AP) – Connecticut Capitol Police Chief Michael Fallon has died at a hospital in Hartford after a bout with cancer. He was 47.
Capitol Police Sgt. Robert Bates said Fallon died at about 9 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He said the news shocked and saddened the department because Fallon’s death was sudden.
Fallon was named chief in 2006 after 23 years with the Hartford Police Department, where he worked his way up to assistant police chief. Bates says Fallon leaves behind a wife, a son in high school and a daughter in middle school.
Funeral and memorial services have not been set yet.
East Haven state Rep. Michael Lawlor says Fallon was highly respected and his loss can’t be overstated.
“Connecticut State Capitol Police Chief Michael Fallon was an outstanding police officer, leader and person. He was among the most professional law enforcement officers I have ever worked with,” Rep. Lawlor said. “Please keep Chief Fallon and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
