Hartford (AP) – Former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley is set to announce whether he’ll drop his bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by Christopher Dodd and seek the Republican nomination to run for Connecticut governor instead.
The Greenwich businessman has scheduled his announcement for 12:30 p.m. in Hartford.
The GOP has been eyeing the governor’s job ever since Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced last month that she will not seek re-election next year. Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele announced Wednesday that he is seeking the GOP nomination for governor.
The Democratic field for governor is crowded, and the Democratic Governors Association has said it is making Connecticut one of its top priorities in the 2010 elections.
