States: Federal toxics laws too weak

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – Environmental officials in Maine and a dozen other states say federal laws to protect the public from toxic chemicals are too weak and states instead are leading the way.
A joint statement released Wednesday asks for changes in national environmental laws so they will protect vulnerable populations by identifying and regulating the most troubling chemicals in consumer items and elsewhere.
Maine Environmental Commissioner David Littell says the effects of exposure to toxic chemicals are enormous and often avoidable.
The states say they are the leading innovators in regulating toxics. Maine and Washington, for example, have policies to promote safer chemicals in children’s products and prioritize hazardous chemicals.
The other states signing the statement include California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

Then you can help your neighboring states.
The Government is big enough now.
Are each states of this union so helpless that they need someone/a possy in washington to say don`t poision the children with chemicals.
Talk to the Governors of each state.
Give them something else to think about instead of an excuse to raise taxes.
Like our children are being poisioned by chemicals.
Hold the Governors responsible for poisioning the children and see them turn into Mr.Clean, instead of some dummy that needs washington to come up with more laws.First things first, with the insurance that these poor little children are getting medical attention for their illnresses from the chemicals.
Then prevent, the rest of the children in washington from getting chemically poisioned.
Washington can learn for themselfs from the other states in the union how to run things.Chemically speaking!
