Hartford (WTNH) – Holiday cards were signed today at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford for U.S. service members and veterans across the country and abroad.
The third annual Holiday Mail for Heros event was sponsored by Pitney Bowes and the Red Cross. Many people at the event today were thinking about the 30,000 additional troops that will be deployed following President Barack Obama’s announcement on television tonight.
“I wish them the best, definitely filling out these cards knowing when I was over there, receiving these cards was a great way to keep our spirits up especially during the holiday season, being away from families and friends,” said Sgt. Dominic Rondina of Groton.
“I don’t think that we need to send any more people overseas. America, at this time, needs to try to fix up our own problems that we have,” said Janette Williams of Hartford.
I am concerned about their safety and, obviously for the men that are over there and then sending more over there. It’s a concern for me,” said Kathy Riley of Coventry.
