Naugatuck lawyer to run against DeLauro

Wallingford (WTNH) – Jerry Labriola, Jr., a Naugatuck attorney, announced today he will seek the Republican nomination for the Third Congressional District to run against 20-year incumbent Democrat Rosa DeLauro of New Haven.
“We must end the government takeover of America and give the people of Connecticut a new voice,” said Labriola. “Our nation is heading in the wrong direction and we must restore the private sector of our economy to create jobs and opportunity for all.”
Labriola said the Democratic-controlled Congress has demonstrated “flawed leadership tripling the national debt, attempting a government takeover of the health care system while treating terrorist threats as nothing more than bank robbers.”
“I am a fiscal conservative and my opponent is a spend-thrift liberal Washington insider,” Labriola noted. “We’re $12 trillion in debt. The voters will decide.”
He said DeLauro is absent from her district in pursuit of a Washington agenda that has not created opportunity for business, nor has it protected seniors from uncertain health care rationing and it has failed to provide free market approaches to challenges government created.
Jerry Labriola is a 1979 graduate of Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and he received his law degree in 1982 from Catholic University of America. He has served as Town Attorney for the Town of Naugatuck. In addition to his professional experience, Labriola has served as a member of the Wallingford Board of Assessment Appeals and as Vice Chairman of the Wallingford Charter Revision Commission. He currently coaches soccer for the Ansonia High School girls soccer team.
“Just like every other small business owner in Connecticut and America, I’ve had to meet a payroll and provide healthcare to my employees,” Labriola said.
“Unfortunately,” Labriola said, “the Washington aristocracy has seized our livelihood, our freedoms to choose and has left us with trillions of dollars in debt,” Labriola continued, “It is time that we send people to Washington who will represent our voices here in Connecticut - Connecticut families can no longer foot the bill for the pipe dreams of the Washington elite.”
“Everyone loses, when government wins.”
During the next several months, Labriola will be visiting every town and city in the district to listen to voters on the issues, earn endorsements from Republican and community leaders and raise the funds necessary to defeat an incumbent who can summon millions from every special interest in Washington.
“There will be a new Congressman for the 3rd District in 2010, because the people deserve someone who gets it, who understands the strength of our nation is based on individuals and the liberty to pursue one’s dreams,” said Labriola. “This election will offer a clear choice between the failed big government model of Rosa DeLauro or the accountable, opportunity-based and growth oriented ideas promoted by those who see our greatest days ahead.”
Labriola is married to Barbara Thompson and is the father of two grown daughters.
