CT budget trouble taxing on residents

Hartford (WTNH) – The state’s latest budget troubles have some people raising questions. Could efforts to close the deficit mean some higher taxes?
On Thanksgiving eve, Governor Jodi Rell called lawmakers back to Hartford on December 15th to address a $466 million hole in the new state budget. One of her proposed solutions is an $84 million cut to the state’s cities and towns; this is0 something everyone in state government had agreed not to do because it would be too much of a burden on already heavily burdened local property tax payers.
A CCM Radio Ad could be heard on across he airwaves, Monday: “Do the math. Cuts in aid to your hometown equal increases in you property taxes. Another special legislative session is on the way and it is time for local property taxpayers to be heard.”
With the help of the state, your property taxes pay for schools and other local services services that are already stretched.
“They’re going to have to cut more employees, cut back services and some will have to issue supplemental property tax bills,” said James Finley, CEO of CT Conference of Municipalities.
This means that if state government renegs on this promise you could end up getting another property tax bill from your city or town hall.
The Speaker of the House said there is not much support for making those cuts to the towns.
“This is the shock to them and they would have to find ways to deal with providing funding for their schools and services,” said State Representative Chris Donovan.
The Republican leader in the House, who is expected to announce he’s running for Governor in the next few weeks, said he opposed to it as well.
“Speaker Donovan can complain about it as I understand but what’s the alternative? We’ve run out of tax increases, we’ve run out of gimmicks, we’ve run out of borrowing. We need to cut spending,” said Larry Cafero, leader of the Connecticut House Republicans.

taxes are needed but no more increases....do with what they are getting NOW...not enough???.....then start f''cking cutting..........
we need NOT to pay the increases.............

people....WE cant earn the amount of money that THIS government is putting on us now.....
think about it...........
Now the taxpayers have to take the pinch.
If we can keep the money balanced then the folk in charge of balanceing are obviously not balanced in the head.Who is the accountant/treasuer and why are the treasuerers reports before spending ,false.

lol Socialist.
'The state should be cutting spending, quit paying for illegal aliens medical care and cut-off all funding to towns that are "sanctuary cities".'
Lets also stop paying for those nasty Europeans who kept coming here too! Building their sanctuaries, like Manhattan!
Different time and TOTALLY different circumstances.....
Paying for those "nasty Euro's" didnt happen....people came here and had to actually make it on their own...NOT get little "handouts" like goes on today... BIG difference
plus people that came here back then WANTED to be an AMERICAN...not shove their culture down peoples throats like some do now and just EXPECT everyone else to take it...
back then we were a young nation BUILDING.....now we are a nation that cant afford the people it has....... BIG difference
Explain the following:
1. Little Italy
2. China Town
3. Ethnocentric social clubs
4. Ethnocentric churches
5. The Swedish Lutheran Church I grew up in that had mass in Swedish until 1990.
"not shove their culture down peoples throats like some do now and just EXPECT everyone else to take it"
See Above.
I might also add... the CATHOLIC Church to that list!
Oh, and the Europeans coming to "America" in the 16th-17th centuries and shoving their culture down the throats of the native people.
What about the Spanish invasion of south/central America and their attempt to covert the native peoples to Catholicism? What about the Spanish killing them if they didn't convert?
"back then we were a young nation BUILDING"
Either we were "nation BUILDING" or stealing land and destroying cultures....
"Paying for those "nasty Euro's" didnt happen....people came here and had to actually make it on their own..."
True...
"NOT get little "handouts" like goes on today... "
True.... but many also work very hard and take NO handouts. Don't lump all people together...
'Paying for those "nasty Euro's" didnt happen....people came here and had to actually make it on their own...NOT get little "handouts" like goes on today... BIG difference.'
I see. Yet, undocumented WORKERS are here for labor, not for handouts, unless their handout is cash, then they sure are. Your xenophobia is a scary monster.
'not shove their culture down peoples throats like some do now and just EXPECT everyone else to take it...'
I refer to Todd's post above.
'back then we were a young nation BUILDING.....now we are a nation that cant afford the people it has....... BIG difference.'
We're an Empire. Not a nation.
We don't live in a nation with a national language, so your point is still moot.
what language is our founding documents in? It could have been German, but by 1 vote.....
Todd - go to Little Italy, Chinatown, etc.... I don't speak he language(s), but somehow I am able to do business in those places as well.
America - where people can bring much of their culture and weave it in with what is there enriching both!
That does not make it the official language, for it is noted that we do not have one. What is a culturally accepted language, and what is lawfully deemed so, are not mutually exclusive as you would like to portray them.
'America - where people can bring much of their culture and weave it in with what is there enriching both!'
Yes, so therefore they can speak whatever they want.
'Able you JO....the Europeans came here LEGALLY....do you even know what the word means??????'
So the Europeans came here, stole Native American land, killed them for it, and this was all do legally? Are you living in a world of moral ambiguity?
'My relatives came through Ellis Island - LEGALLY. There is a difference between LEGAL & ILLEGAL...I just do not think you are smart enough to know the difference.'
They came here under the auspices of legality. For, no human being can be defined as a crime, for which you're attempting to do by using the term 'illegal.' Sadly, I must not be smart enough to realize that you're unable to understand that.
'Let me make it simple for you....I you give me your TV and I come over and take it to my home.....that is LEGAL! If I come over to your house and TAKE your TV while you are not home and you did not give me permission to take it, that is ILLEGAL. '
I you give. That wasn't simple at all. Secondly, this comparison you are attempting to make is not correct, as you're attempting to equate theft to crossing an imaginary line of demarcation. You should probably iron out what you want to say before you let the internet read it.
'If you stop drinking the Kool-Aid you may, may be able to grasp that concept.'
Ah. But what else shall I drink on a warm summers evening?
