Dodd disapproval rating grows again

Hartford (WTNH) – Senator Chris Dodd pledged to fight back against low approval numbers in public opinion polls but it now appears he is losing the fight. A new Quinnipiac University Poll shows the number of voters who disapprove of Connecticut’s Senior senator is growing again.
It’s a set back that has Dodd’s campaign people scratching their heads.
Despite an increase in public appearances, news conferences, and involvement in high profile national issues [like credit card regulation, health care and banking], more Connecticut voters say they disapprove of the way Sen. Dodd is handling his job than did two months ago.
The Quinnipiac University Poll of registered voters shows 54 percent disapprove; it was 49 percent in September.
“Only 39 percent of Connecticut voters say that Sen. Dodd is honest and trustworthy. Voters are not going to vote for you if they don’t trust you,” said Quinnipiac Poll Director Doug Schwartz.
In the Republican race for the Senate nomination, former 2nd District Congressman Rob Simmons still wins among registered Republican voters with 28 percent.
But former WWE/CEO Linda McMahon is only 11 points back; Former Ambassador Tom Foley about 20 points back; and both Stock Market guru Peter Schiff and State Senator Sam Caliguiri are in single digits.
“Certainly it’s competitive there, and also, you don’t want to count out someone like Tom Foley, who got nine percent; he has risen,” Schwartz said.
But as of today it almost doesn’t matter who the Republicans nominate against Sen. Dodd because almost everyone one of them beats him or is within striking distance.
Simmons is ahead of Sen. Dodd by 11 points; Foley beats Sen. Dodd by seven points. McMahon beats Sen. Dodd by two points. And, Caliguiri comes in with a tie while Peter Schiff is just one point behind.
“Anybody but Dodd, at least for more than 40-percent of Connecticut voters, they tell us they’ll vote for anyone; even Republicans that they haven’t heard of,” Schwartz said.
A spokesperson for the State Democratic Party issued a statement saying, ” Senator Dodd declined our request for an interview today despite the fact that he has been available in some fashion several times a week lately.”

Dodd messed up big time,
perhaps people will see the macro picture though.
Joe Lieberman is the only consitant conservative CT has had !
Yes, some of his views are liberal but overall Joe has done a good job for CT.
He brought home the bacon (military projects) for many years which helped keep me and others employed.
I will continue to vote for Joe !
Take off the BLINDERS and get your HEAD out of the sand! DOOD NEEDS TO GO! Plain and simple. He should take Lieberman and DeLauro with him!
Let him run there.
And THOSE numbers probably are just from the "sheep heard" of loyal Democrats....lol
ALL these "POLLS" are SO manipulated by leading questions that can be twisted into ANYTHING........
The man is HATED..........with GOOD reason........
What a total waste of money to get Obama up here a few weeks ago to give THAT dog & pony show...........
LOL
"So imagine our surprise to find, buried on page 795 of Mr. Dodd's new financial regulation bill, a gift for every member of the securities trial bar that opposed his earlier reforms. We'll have more to say about the rest of Mr. Dodd's legislative opus, but his about-face on securities litigation is among the most dismaying of the flaws within its 1,136 pages.
The Connecticut Democrat would create new civil liability for anyone "aiding and abetting" those who violate the securities laws, making these new defendants just as liable as people who actually commit a fraud.
Similar to a bill recently pushed by Democratic Senate colleagues Arlen Specter and Jack Reed, Mr. Dodd's new legislation would essentially overturn the Supreme Court's 2008 ruling in Stoneridge v. Scientific-Atlanta. In that case, Justices ruled that companies can't be sued merely for doing business with another firm that commits fraud. Along with the 1994 precedent in Central Bank of Denver v. First Interstate Bank of Denver, the case served as a gut punch to "scheme liability," in which trial lawyers seek to rope in parties acting legally for having done business with parties that don't."

Christopher Dodd is a stain on this state.
Agreed, we need to get rid of Rep. Buchanan (FL-13), Rep. Boehner (OH-08), Rep. Sensenbrenner (WI-05). Remember this, you get your term limits, you get rid of some of your favoirtes.
The majority don`t realize they are being decived.
It is easier to decive folk and get the vote than tell the truth and stand on the side of the road with a repent sign.~Peace Glenna~
We have allowed gov. go unchecked, while we look to the most out of touched to do the bidding of the highest bidder. This is where we are, this is what we have to work with! God bless and keep us all!
doesnt looking at this corrupt form we have NOW get through to ANYBODY ?...........
you cant always count on "elections" to straighten things out.........most are BOUGHT....
Chris Dodd and Barack Obama have so much in common, they both LIED an are DECEPTIVE, ONLY THE DEFT, DUMB and BLIND will follow him now…
That's OK if it cleans house. That means getting rid of the current speaker of the House and Senate too. Fresh bodies would be a blessing no matter the party.
However, the party system should be outlawed at the same time. This would force voters to do research about candidates rather than blindly voting along party lines.
Time for a third chioce!
You appose anything that would help the middle class and line the pockets of the mongers.
