From the article...

"" Sen. Lieberman has strongly indicated that increased regulation on the insurance industry, without the public option, would likely get his vote and stop a potential filibuster. ""

Finally someone with a common sense approach to this 'issue', who raises the spectre of solving the problem without creating another fiscally draining gov't handout program....

About friggin' time...

You go Joe !!!!!!

Senator Dodd is absolutely right in seeking a public option in the health care plan. The neutral Congressional Budget Office has indicated that the House bill that recently passed will result in a $100 billion reduction in the deficit over the next decade. Strange that Senator Lieberman pushed for a war that will cost us over a trillion dollars and wants us to start a third one in the area, but cannot support a public option because it would cost too much. Shame on him.

Urgent!! Robert Reich on your healthcare http://bit.ly/SAQ7a

Why A Strong Public Option Is Essential - By jacksmith - Working Class

Robert Reich explains the pubic option: http://bit.ly/dDYSJ

Hollywood Supports The Public Option :-) http://bit.ly/3XLwPi

Beautiful HEATHER GRAHAM http://bit.ly/12sRYD :-)

It's not just because more than two thirds of the American people want a single payer health care system. And if they cant have a single payer system 77% of all Americans want a strong government-run public option on day one (86% of democrats, 75% of independents, and 72% republicans). Basically everyone.

It's not just because according to a new AARP POLL: 86 percent of seniors want universal healthcare security for All, including 93% of Democrats, 87% of Independents, and 78% of Republicans. With 79% of seniors supporting creating a new strong Government-run public option plan, available immediately. Including 89% of Democrats, 80% of Independents, and 61% of Republicans, STUNNING!!

It's not just because it will lower cost. Because a strong public option will dramatically lower cost for everyone. And dramatically improved the quality of care everyone receives in America and around the World. Rich, middle class, and poor a like.

It's not just because it will save trillions of dollars and prevent the needless deaths of millions more of YOU, caused by a rush to profit by the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!

It's not just because every expert in every field, including economist, and Nobel laureates all agree that free market based healthcare systems don't work. Never have and never will. The US has the only truly free market based healthcare system in the World. And as you all know now, IT IS A DISASTER!

It's not just because providing or denying medically necessary care for profit motivations is wrong. Because it is WRONG! It's professionally, ethically, and morally REPUGNANT!, Animalistic, VILE and EVIL.

THE REASON THE PUBLIC OPTION IS ESSENTIAL:

The public option is ESSENTIAL because over 200 million of you are trapped in the forest of the wolves. Which is the forest of the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX! With no way out except through needless inhumane suffering, and DEATH. While the wolves tear at your flesh, and rip you limb from lib. Then feast on your lifeless bodies like a dead carcase for transplant parts.

At the most vulnerable times of your lives (when you were sick and hurting), millions of you have had to fight and loose cruel, but heroic battles. Fighting against the big guns of the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX! in the forest of the wolves. All because you have no place else to go. You have no other CHOICE!

But the PUBLIC OPTION will give you someplace safe to go. And it will give us someplace safe to take you. The public option will be your refugium (your refuge). Where the wolves cannot get at you when your down, hurting, and vulnerable. Where everyone who needs it can find rest, security, comfort and the care they need. Protected by the BIG GUNS of We The People Of The United States. THE MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE AND COUNTRY ON EARTH.

This is why it is so critical that we do not lead another 50 million vulnerable, uninsured Americans into the forest of the wolves, without the protections of a Strong Government-run MEDICARE like public option. We The People Of The United States MUST NOT LET THAT HAPPEN to any more of our fellow Americans. If healthcare reform does not contain a strong MEDICARE like public option on day one. YOU MUST! KILL IT. Or you will do far more harm than good. And millions more will die needlessly. Rich, middle class, and poor a like.

To those who would continue to obstruct good and true healthcare reform for the American people, and who seek to trap millions more vulnerable Americans in the forest of the wolves. We will continue to fight you. We are prepared to wage all out war against you, and will eagerly DESTROY! you. Time...is...UP! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! No Co-op's! No Triggers! NO INDIVIDUAL MANDATES! without a Strong MEDICARE like public option on day one.

Healthcare reform can be the GREATEST! Accomplishment of our time and century. A time when future generations may say of us, that we were all, AMERICAS GREATEST GENERATIONS.

BUT WE MUST ACT!

I therefore call on all my fellow Americans and the peoples of the World. To join us in this fight so that we may finish becoming the better America that we aspire to be for everyone.

SPREAD THE WORD!

I have been privileged to be witness as many of you fought, and struggled to take your first breath, and your last breath on this earth. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Life is precious.

Whatever the cost. WE! MUST SUCCEED.

God Bless You My Fellow Human Beings

Joe Lieberman is right the public option is a bad idea. Government always screws up everything because they pass not well thought out laws. We need to regulate the health industry because their greed is the problem. We must tell them what they can charge for everything.

A good example of congress incompetence is the recently passed law on credit card companies that stops them from jacking interest rates for risky people. Now my interest rate has gone up and if I don't use my card for a year they will charge me a fee for not using it. Great job 2008 elected congress (Dodd)!

I can't believe how shallow these comments are. Lieberman is a politician, period. He saw a chance at a power grab by becoming independent once his VP bid failed. Now he does/says anything to get a t.v. camera near him in the guise of autonomy. In his last election a nobody came within points of defeating Lieberman. It is only the jaded and Rhino's who support him now.
Dodd is a whole other story, but for as corrupt as he is, at least I know how he will vote.

"WASHINGTON — Lieberman devoted a conference call with reporters to an issue that his main rival in the U.S. Senate race, Democratic nominee Ned Lamont, has highlighted in recent days.

“I have long supported the goal of universal health care,” Lieberman told reporters. “Ned Lamont can talk about it. I’ve been doing something about it all the time I’ve been here.”"

To President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature,
It is now official... you are ALL corrupt morons:

The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You have had 234
years to get it right and it is broke.

Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to
get it right and it is broke.

Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get
it right and it is broke.

War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it
right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and
transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44
years to get it right and they are broke.

Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to
get it right and it is broke.

The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our
dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a
budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before.
You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.

You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our
throats while overspending our tax dollars

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH
A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

I am with Joe Lieberman and Olympia Snow on this one. No Public Option unless a trigger is met. Three addtional points:

1. Everyone must buy insurance. Just like for your car.

2. No pre-existing condition crap.

3. Under all circumstances, cap the amount of money that the government will put in. Period.

mandatory car insurance is a red herring because is not the same as mandatory health insurance.

There are Constitutional questions that need to be properly answered and debated.

If the goal is to cut health care cost and insure everyone, why does it require a 2000 page bill loaded with unrelated items to do that? I would think a better bill could be proposed to specifically address those issues.

The public option will eventually become law. It may not make it this time through the Senate, but eventually it will happen. There are no other options. The band aid non-solutions Republicans offer may help, and could be included in a reform bill, but are not solutions to the systemic issues with American healthcare. Businesses are bogged down with costs, and so many simply do not offer benefits. The market has been so dwindled over the last 60 years there is no longer an advantage in hiring to offer benefits. People claim it is their right to not be insured, well, it's my right to not pay for your procedure!
People pretend like their current status will remain. That they will not have, in 10 years, what they have now. People decry those who honestly accept a coming healthcare crisis with broad economic implications stemming from new veterans of 2 wars, baby boomers, and immigration. The banter is numbing, and insulting to the vast majority of uninsured... meaning those who are in working families.
