Orange (WTNH) – First Selectman James Zeoli ® has won his third term, in Orange, against Trish Pearson (D).
Stew Leonard’s has been trying to set up shop on land just off I-95 at Exit 41 in Orange. They’ve been fighting an uphill battle since the mid-90s; Pearson said she would support the grocer if she wins the election.
“In order to preserve what we love about Orange, we need to make progress in this town and Stew Leonard’s is a symbol of this progress,” Pearson said.
Zeoli has softened previous statements that were in opposition.
“It’s a key location right off the highway, and someday when the economy turns around the Leonard family will realize they have to move ahead with this project,” Zeoli said.
The most recent attempt by Stew Leonard’s to begin construction was halted about a year ago by the state Supreme Court over some problems with the Wetland Commissions’ initial approval. The court is forcing Stew’s to re-submit all of it’s applications.
