HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Gov. M. Jodi Rell has nominated the acting commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to take over the job permanently.
Patricia Rehmer has been acting commissioner since Thomas Kirk retired over the summer. Her nomination requires legislative approval.
The 49-year-old Rehmer has worked in mental health agencies for more than 25 years, including 10 years at the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. She has been deputy commissioner since 2004.
Rehmer previously was chief executive officer of the Capitol Region Mental Health Center in Hartford, and worked for many years at the Institute of Living and Hartford Hospital.

She is in charge of the people that service the clients in the community that have been living on the streets due to the Norwich Hospital closing or that need assistance dealing with their mental illness
