Dems target proposed zoo, library cuts

Bridgeport (WTNH) – The state’s fiscal year ends in about a week and a half, and with no new budget in sight citizen groups and legislative Democrats are attacking Governor Rell with a series of protests and public forums. The latest centers around cuts to libraries and the Beardsley Zoo.
The governor’s budget proposal suspends funding for grants to public libraries and negatively affects funding to the zoo, which could reduce services to patrons of both facilities.
Beardsley Zoo is slated to lose almost a half million or more in funding under the governor’s proposal, and cuts could result in a $1,200 or more loss per library in the state. They are losses operators of both facilities say could close their doors.
Reduced services were at the center of debate Wednesday around a protest against proposed cuts to nursing homes and elderly services. The cuts could result in staff layoffs.
Students and parents also spoke out against the governor’s proposal to close state technical schools. Bristol Tech and JM Wright Technical in Stamford are would be on the chopping block.
It’s unclear whether all this criticism will have any effect, but Democrats are holding news conferences later this morning and tonight on what’s being called a blitz tour against proposed budget cuts. Today’s topic is library and Beardsley Zoo funding.

Like the $300,000 "heated" bus stops in SANCTUARY CITY....
The over "BILLION" dollar train gargage.............
How much of THIS crap is STILL going on ?????????
I propose that legislators be subject to, and pass drug and simple arithmetic tests before assuming office.
THE CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED ADS BY THE CBIA ON TV NOW
did mua cause that??
CBIA is trying desperately to keep the billions of our tax money
NOW IS THE TIME FOR RELL TO STAND AGAINST BIG BUSINESS
THAT MONEY WOULD MEAN NO CUTS AND NO TAX INCREASES
Business have cut salaries & pensions - the public sector needs to do the same. CT residents can not afford to pay anymore in taxes!!!!!
I am in the Financial field, and can certainly tell you - businesses are not getting a free ride in CT. Our legislatures are always constantly driving up workman's comp costs, health insurance costs, ect with their endless mandates. Their latest proposal was to mandate paid sick time. No other state in this country mandates sick time. Where would you go if you were choosing to start a business? Certainly not CT !!! CBIA is a great advocate for Business in CT. Businesses in CT equal jobs in CT.
