Group to release report on CT film credits

Hartford(AP) – A children’s advocacy group is releasing a report that questions the value of Connecticut’s tax subsidies to the entertainment industry.
Connecticut Voices for Children, which has been critical of the film tax credit program, says the report, to be released Monday, shows the majority of credits have been used to subsidize production costs amassed in other states.
The group says it will show the program does not pay for itself through increased tax revenues from film and video productions, and other activity.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell has proposed capping the credit program. But members of the state’s growing film, video and digital media industry called the move shortsighted. They said it would be a mistake to pare the credits just as the industry is creating jobs and new facilities here.
