Hartford (AP) – The Connecticut Senate has approved a plan to overhaul the state’s 300-year-old probate court system.
The Senate last night approved a bill that cuts the current 117 probate court districts by more than half. t also imposes regular schedules in those courts and requires future probate judges to be attorneys.
The House approved the legislation last week. Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s spokesman says she expects to sign it into law.
Probate courts settle estates and appoint guardians for children and adults who can’t take care of themselves.
