Palin doesn't specify where she gets her news

Washington (AP) – Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin repeatedly failed to cite a newspaper or magazine when asked what she had read regularly before John McCain picked her as his running mate, saying only that she had read “most of them.”
Palin also said that she doesn’t believe that the media’s coverage of her has been sexist. “It would be sexist if the media were to hold back and not ask me about my experience, my vision, my principles, my values,” said Palin, Alaska’s governor.
In an interview aired Tuesday on “The CBS Evening News,” anchor Katie Couric asked Palin what publications she had read to stay informed and to understand the world.
“I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media,” Palin replied. Asked for examples, she said, “Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.”
Asked again for an example, Palin told Couric: “I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn’t a foreign country, where it’s kind of suggested, ‘Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?’ Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.”
In remarks aired Wednesday on CBS’ “The Early Show,” Palin told Couric that she thinks media coverage of her has been guided not by sexism but by the fact that she isn’t “part of the Washington herd.” While she sees some double-standards in media coverage, Palin said she believes it’s more attributable to the “media elite, the Washington elite” not knowing who she is than her gender.
Palin has only agreed to a handful of interviews by major news media since joining the GOP ticket nearly five weeks ago and has not held a news conference.
Asked Tuesday by radio host Hugh Hewitt if she agreed that interviews with ABC’s Charles Gibson and CBS’ Couric were designed to embarrass her, Palin replied: “Well, I have a degree in journalism also, so it surprises me that so much has changed since I received my education in journalistic ethics all those years ago.”
She continued: “But I’m not going to pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrelful. I’m going to take those shots and those pop quizzes and just say that’s OK, those are good testing grounds. And they can continue on in that mode. That’s good. That makes somebody work even harder. It makes somebody be even clearer and more articulate in their positions. So really I don’t fight it. I invite it.”
Palin has been spending the last few days at McCain’s ranch in Sedona, Ariz., preparing for her debate Thursday night with Democratic rival Joe Biden, Barack Obama’s running mate.
Although Palin told Couric on Monday that she didn’t have a “debate coach,” the campaign said she is getting advice from McCain’s top campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt, and campaign advisers Tucker Eskew, Nicolle Wallace and Mark Wallace.
“I have quite a few people who are giving us information about the record of Obama and Biden, and at the end of the day, though, it is – it’s so clear, again, what those choices are. Either new ideas, new energy and reform of Washington, D.C., or more of the same,” Palin said.

So an interview for national TV is a pop quiz. What is pop quiz about what you read? Or what is your foreign policy experience and positions.
I think the pop quiz was when she asked ealier last year What is the job of trhe Vice President.
Does she read the Economist, the Anchorage Daily, or the Limbaugh letter and the Alaska Independent Party news letter? or People, US and I was on the cover of one as the sexiest governor.
Is asking someone about supreme court decisions a pop quiz since she a) if president will have his solicitor general arguing in front of them, and b) have to select new judges if one dies or steps down.
another bit of biased reporting on a non issue.
I'm sick of this and the dems
Is it a pop quiz to ask the candidate for VP where Waziristan is? Or her position on economic issues other than Senator McCain and I will kick their butts? Who's butts and why and what will be the consequences?
What do you expect Palin to know? What questions would you ask her?
Let's hear one for foreign policy, one on defense policy, one for economics, one for public policy and finally one on energy policy.
People are having problems with her not because she is not answering hard questions, she is not answering anything beyond pure campaign rhetoric. I would like to hear cogent responses.
Her discussion of ethics in journalism was interesting, were Katie or Charlie unethical in their questions?
Now I see she's even parroting Obama's talking points.
Sorry, Sarie, if America wants change from the Bush regime (and believe me, we do), you and McCain LOSE. Big time.
Not to mention the fact that, of the few things Palin's actually said about policy, she agrees with Bush even more than McCain does.
Also, she recently made a joke about Joe Biden's age, when McCain is 7 years older than Biden.
Does this moron expect people to think that Joe Biden is too old to be Vice President at 65, while McCain is young and vigorous at 72? Patently absurd.
And it's simply pathetic that she can't respond to a completely innocuous question from Couric about what she reads/watches for news.
It's fun watching the GOP self destruct.
VOTE GOP!!!!!!!
Bwahahaha, it's fun to watch ignorant people like KMRIA make ignorant comments.

Not relevant to the article written above and blantant character attack.
Classy Jeff. Wouldn't you rather use your comments to defend your candidate?
These comments should be pulled. This is digusting and NOT AT ALL RELEVANT TO THE ARTICLE written above.
The election is in 35 days. There are plenty of talking points available and instead, we get gross personal attacks.
I enjoy seeing how unhinged, outraged and desperate you effete little wimps become, squealing impotently with rage as I point out the impending crushing defeat that will be visited upon you and your GOP masters.
COWARD.
Vote McCain-Palin 2008
Let the blog decide what can be said not you Obama supporter idiots.
MLN is run by a bunch of idiots as is Ct Local Politics and about a hundred other blogs.
That is what i hate about these liberals they want to know who everybody is screw them.
Please tell me a fair "unbiased" question that you would like to place to Gov. Palin on Defense, Foreign Policy, the economy, and public policy. The question needs to beyond basic political rhetoric.
Its called Free Speech a word which has a double standard for you liberals. Ok for you bad for us who dont agree.
Get used to it.

Palin should have been able to produce at least couple of different media outlets that she could credit with getting her news from. She probably could have used that as an opportunity to pick up undecided voters if she threw in a left leaning publication like the NYT or the Washington Post.
To not be able to name any...I know she has a busy schedule and a ton of kids to take care of but come on. What does that say about your interest in world news?
Use free speech as it is meant to be used!
My military time (16 years and a life long disability) defended free speech. The free speech that our forefathers envisioned was free and rational discussion including desent. Using free speech as a cover for inane spoutting off does nothing constructive. So defend your position and your candidate so people will understand it more than what your rantings currently reflect.
The world was Alaska and oil till the middle of August.
Her briefings came from the First Dude who was copy to on all emails.
She did not want to show up her future boss that she really only reads online web sites versus standard media. Since he does not know how to operate a computer it would be in her words "like" totally embarassing if John knew she knew more about computers than he did.
Bush, Hannity, Limbaugh,Levin and Savage have provided the impetus to change this once conservative to one of those liberals you seem to dispise.
It is humorous to some of my close friends who have known me since the early 70's to see the change your heros have made in me. Yes I have maintained friends who are liberal even when I stuck by so conservative issues because we respect each others position and can express them clearly, sometimes even swaying the other's position for certain items.
I can't get one good question that a McCain Palin supporter would like to ask their candidate outside of their standard rhetoric. I thought the Bush/McCain followers were the capitalists, the movers and shakers, and the down home righteous people who cared about America and could voice their questions of where is the country going and why is it going that way. The people with all of the answers and the policies that make America strong.
Instead when I ask them what they want to know of their leadership, all I can see is the baying of sheep being led to slaughter saying my presidential candidate right or wrong. When the historians review this election cycle the most sexist thing that will be recorded is that a presidential candidate used sexism to select his running mate and it failed. Not because of the press, but because of the candidate and his judgement.
So with that said, I will sign off.
