Lawmakers to return to Capitol

Hartford (AP) – State lawmakers are returning to the Capitol on Monday to attempt to override one of Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s vetoes.
The Republican governor nixed a bill that would have increased the state’s minimum wage from $7.65 to $8 an hour beginning in January, and to $8.25 an hour in 2010. She says she doesn’t want to burden businesses in a difficult economy.
The legislature is controlled by Democrats, who have enough seats in the House of Representatives to override a veto. Senate leaders were hopeful they had enough votes if two Republicans who support the increase agree to overrule Rell.
However, it was unclear how many lawmakers will attend the session given lawmakers’ vacation and work schedules.
